چکیده

We present the results of the analysis of fish remains from an archaeological context (Punta Ñagué) associated with the earliest settlers in the semiarid northern coast of Chile and dated to the end of the Pleistocene (12,916–11,043 cal yr BP). The great majority of the species identified are fish that can be captured with nets in the nearshore subtidal and inter-tidal zones. These results, along with evidence from other early archaeological sites in northern Chile, demonstrate the early systematic exploitation of fish species, particularly Sciaenidae. These fish constituted an abundant and reliable resource, which contributed significantly to the subsistence of these early maritime-adapted settlers who populated the Pacific coast of South America.

Strategic planning for optimal development of aquaculture in coastal areas of Qeshm Island

The economic growth of aquaculture and the dependence of a large growing population on coastal resources have led to coastal degradation and reduced resources. In this paper while realizing the potential capacities of the island systems,  the aquaculture activities of the island are specially discussed  in the framework of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM). Speciation of heavy metals in coastal water of Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf

Fuel storage tanks are one of the main sources of water pollution as well as loss of crude oil and oil products in refineries.  In the process of utilization of these tanks, considerable amounts of hydrocarbons may find their way into the coastal water, which eventually lead to loss of valuable hydrocarbons. Oil type, climatic condition and characteristics of oil tanks are among the main variab...

The study of seaweeds biomass from intertidal rocky shores of Qeshm Island, Persian Gulf

Rocky shores are one of the most important habitats of marine environment in coastal areas. They host marine organisms including seaweeds because of existence of strong and stable substrate for their growths. Intertidal rocky shores are a prominent feature on coastal areas of Qeshm Island located at the northern part of Strait of Hormuz. In order to study biomass of seaweeds on rocky intertidal...

Ecological classification of southern intertidal zones of Qeshm Island, based on CMECS model

The “Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard (CMECS)”, a new approach to ecological classification, was applied to 122 km of the southern intertidal zone of Qeshm Island located the Hormouz Strait - the Persian Gulf. Two components of this model, Surface Geology (SGC) and Biotic Cover (BCC) were used. Considering the extent and geomorphological alternations of the covered area, 12...
